I’m just home after spending a couple of nights at Green Lake Regional Park, near Sea Lake. What a great little spot. For just $20 a night, you get powered campsites, hot showers and plenty of room to spread out (at this time of year, anyway).

It’s 18 months since my first visit here. The reason for returning was to collect a solar panel from Nadine, a joint purchase we’d made a couple of weeks ago to take advantage of a discount. She and her dad were passing through here to start their 5-week trip to the Eyre Peninsula and Central Australia. They were both happy to spend a night here, rather than in Sea Lake.
There were very few camped compared to when I visited in October 2021. Perhaps because it was a little chilly overnight (3-5), though the daytime temperatures were 20ish. But more likely it was more popular last time because COVID lockdowns were tapering off.
Mala and I tried out the walking tracks, but they were overgrown (much more than last time I think), and in places impossible to follow. A pity really, since the vehicle tracks that we could follow sometimes just skirted the edge of the mallee forest. It would have been nice to be able to walk amongst the trees. Mallees tend to curve over creating a lovely feeling of an enclosed canopy above you.

We enjoyed the beautiful sunsets and sunrises, especially on our second night when the evening sky turned the same colour as our fire.

We’ll definitely be back, though it looks like it might be a while till I get out camping again. My diesel cooktop and heater didn’t get fixed last week as I’d hope. And I can’t get them looked at properly for another 5 weeks. And now my sliding door started won’t open from the inside, making it quite tricky to get out each morning given Mala’s bed set up on the front seat. There’s a 2-week wait on getting VW to sort that out.
