Heathcote trip, post floods

The floods across the state (and further north) had kept me home for the past 6 weeks, with concerns about damp campgrounds, mosquitoes and badly damaged roads. So when I decided I couldn’t wait any longer, I didn’t want to venture too far.

I made the short trip to Heathcote and stayed at the local caravan park. This gave me the chance to do some walks on the O’Keefe Rail Trail, and catch up with a friend who lives nearby.

On the first day, Mala and I walked into One Eye State Forest. We took it fairly slow because my right leg was giving me grief. Saw lots of lovely wildflowers dotted throughout the forest.

Day two, we met with Sri and walked the southern part of Knowsley State Forest. We had intended on walking the Lake Eppalock section, but it was closed and under water in parts. I checked later, and the water levels are more twice what they were in July!

On our final day Mala and I walked through the northern section of Knowsley State Forest, on some forest tracks rather than the rail trail. At that end of the forest is a lovely big dam, so Mala started and ended the walk with a swim: one very happy dog.

On the drive home I could see Lake Cooper at Corop looked full. It had been empty for some time. And I believe nearby Greens Lake is also full, after having been completely drained by the water management authority.
